Happy New Year curvy fashionistas! 2016 is already off to a great start. I basically spent NYE and the rest of the weekend working on my 2016 vision board as well as my business plan (I suck at numbers so I gave myself plenty of time to work on it). And I am so excited to be opening Curve Conscious this spring in Philadelphia! There's still a lot to be done in order to get the doors open, so I'll be very focused on that, but will make it a point to keep up with this blog as much as possible. With that said, this is the very first blog post of the year. And it's so gooood!

If you're like me, you're super excited that it's officially the 12 Days of Christmas! You're probably also really busy shopping for gifts, attending ugly sweater parties, wrapping gifts, decorating, cooking for multiple potlucks at work, drinking A LOT of eggnog, and trying to find the perfect outfit for that one special holiday party. OMG! Christmas is cray! But it's absolutely my favorite holiday so I love it all. This year, I decided to get my holiday party outfit together as soon as possible so that I'm not scrambling the day of the party (been there, done that). The best part? I shopped in my own closet and didn't spend a dime. Besides, now I barely have any dimes left. LOL!
Hi all! I hope you had a great holiday weekend. This year, I wasn't up for all the cooking, clean up and leftovers on Thanksgiving, so my family and I decided to go out to eat. We had a great time, but I think we'll be back to the traditional dinner at home next year. Haha. I also resisted the urge to shop during the frenzy of Black Friday. Not so much out of protest, but because 1. I just had the heating system in my house replaced (Ugh!) and 2. I am saving money to open the Curve Conscious store next year (Yay!) So, I was fine with skipping out on the deals. That doesn't mean I didn't do SOME shopping. Instead of heading out the the crowded malls, I went to a few thrift stores! Goodwill was having their 50% off everything sale and I was able to find 4 beautiful blazers and a dress! Total spent? $14.50 - so basically the cost of lunch for two.
A couple of weeks ago, I excitedly posted "my very first Make Me Over blog post ever", and I hope you got a chance to read it. But what I realized recently is that I hadn't really introduced myself or my business! Because my goal for Curve Conscious and the Make Me Over blog is to be a part of the growing online community of plus size bloggers, stylists, activists, shoppers and supporters - I should have started with a "Hello".
I have to admit, I wasn't a huge fan of printed coordinated sets when they made a big splash last year. I would would either just go for the top or the pants, but never both! But after purchasing this super cute plaid cropped top from ASOS (pictured below), which happened to have matching pants AND a duster coat, I said "what the heck" and went for it. But only after the pants went on sale...and out of season.* So this is the first time I'm actually getting to wear the set, and you know what? I LOVE IT! Check out a couple of my favorite plain patterned looks and let me know what you think! Are you mad about plaid? *Whether you're shopping retail or resale. buy items like coats, pants, blazers and dresses out of season while they're at their lowest prices. Chances are they'll still be just as fashionable and trendy by the time you're able to wear it. The Mad in Plaid Hatter |
